Who I Am

I am Ken Tan, a photographer based in Singapore. I love making all kinds of images from places I’ve been, people I’ve met to creating still life images. I am passionate about improving my art through continuous education and experimentation. My end hope is to create unique and beautiful images.

Ken

It is hard to pinpoint when and what attracted me to photography. I have been exposed to photography all my childhood years growing up with a photo studio as my immediate neighbor, but that’s not the reason either. I have always been attracted to incredible images from publications such as Life and National Geographic. If I have to choose, I would say the National Geographic magazine have the most impact on my photography. Photographers such as Joe McNally, Steve McCurry, Micheal Yamashita and others have in large part influenced my direction as well. However I think that the arrival of digital cameras propelled my interest. As a Computer Science graduate who works on digital imaging, digital photography combines 2 of my interest, the art of photography and the digital processing of the images in post processing.

Most of the time, I have 2 things going on, working on my own projects and creating images for my clients. My own projects can go in all directions, from landscapes to still life or perhaps an interesting portraiture. Anything that inspire me to experiment and be creative. As for my clients, I provide some consultation on what direction the images might take for a particular scenario. I try to make it fun while achieving the best results.

As mentioned, my other passion is digital image processing. I love to work on the images on my computer, retouching or perhaps creating special effects. So much fun. Sometimes the image I wanted to create can only be achieved if manipulated digitally.

Well, I hope to be updating this site with fresh contents consistently. Thank you.
